Just checking in with the hospitals, hospices and care facilities who have Pet Therapy programs. Wanted to see if:

1. your program ever had a dog injured while volunteering?

2. you have injury insurance for the dogs? (i.e. in case of ingesting medication, a needle stick or wheelchair running over a paw)

3. you would be interested in finding a policy that could cover the dogs? Jan Fincher, the Coordinator of our program, suggested VPI Pet Insurance. They have recently added a pet injury policy to their menu. I was considering seeing if we could offer them several programs from the state, we might be able to negotiate a decent price. Right now, it would be $10.51 per dog per month (for over 4 dogs). It’s currently designed for personal pet owners. Anyone interested?

Penrose-St. Francis is currently reviewing and updating its policy on Patient Transport by volunteers. Your feedback about your hospital’s policy/ies would be most appreciated. The requests, needs and services for patient transport have increased exponentially. 1.) Do you have volunteers that do Patient Transport? 2.) Do they transport patients to procedures independently or only in assisting staff? 3.) Do they transport patients who are being discharged from the hospital? 4.) Do they assist the discharged patient in getting in to their vehicle? 5.) Do they transport patients to ancillary buildings on your campus? 6.) What trainings and competencies do you require for your volunteer patient transporters? In addition to your posted comments, would you please share your patient transport position description and email it to me at sandraduve@centura.org? Thanks so much! ~Sandra
