History of CHDVS

The Colorado Hospital Directors of Volunteers Services (CHDVS) became a reality in 1965. It was founded with the goal of creating a group that would promote the professional growth of the Directors of Volunteers in Colorado. We have the same goal today, and this organization has grown to great proportions from the original small group representing Denver-area hospitals.

In the 1970′s CHDVS branched out to include hospitals in other parts of the state. Initially CHDVS was affiliated with a Central Plains regional group based in Kansas City. Later the regional affiliation changed to the Western Hospital Association. In the 1990′s the name officially changed to the Colorado Health Care Directors of Volunteer Services to reflect the diverse backgrounds of the health care professionals represented in the organization.

The membership of CHDVS continues to be an intense, productive, sensible, and caring group. The diverse membership represents a variety of health care organizations-acute medical centers are no longer the norm. Today there are members from rehabilitation hospitals, state mental institutions, Senior Friends, and other health care facilities. Information exchange and networking among members is a source of great satisfaction.

This organization offers its members professional growth, greater visibility and strengthening relationships. CHDVS continues to be a unique, vibrant, and valuable organization meeting the needs of healthcare professionals throughout the state.
